What happened
Hyperliquid's development team, HyperLabs, has unstaked 433,000 HYPE tokens worth approximately $24.25 million and begun selling them through market maker Flowdesk, according to on-chain analyst Yu Jin. The move was spotted early yesterday and has drawn attention due to the size of the token movement.
Why it matters for the market
Monitoring data shows that within the past few hours, 165,000 HYPE worth $9.23 million was transferred to Flowdesk, while another 75,000 HYPE worth $4.19 million was moved to Hyperliquid and exchanged for USDC. A further 90,000 HYPE, valued at around $5.04 million, was sent to exchanges OKX and Bybit.
The distribution across multiple venues suggests the developer team is actively converting staked tokens into liquid assets. Such actions can increase the overall sellable supply in the market, which traders often interpret as a potential source of downward price pressure.
For intraday traders, large transfers from project wallets to market makers and exchanges are closely watched because they can impact liquidity and short-term volatility. The visible flow to Flowdesk, as well as direct exchange deposits, may signal continued distribution in the near term.
What traders should watch
While the exact execution price and any remaining selling plans are not known, the on-chain evidence points to a deliberate reduction of HYPE exposure. Market participants are likely to monitor exchange inflows and order book depth for further clues about the token's short-term direction.
